"Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to Be Cowboys Chipmunks" is a song originally performed by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson that is covered by The Chipmunks, featuring Dave Seville, first released as a single in 1981. The song is also included in the albums Urban Chipmunk, Solid Gold Chipmunks, and The Chipmunks 35th Birthday Party. The CD version of Urban Chipmunk changes Dave's third line to "That's enough!"

Lyrics

Alvin:
Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
They'd rather give you a song than diamonds or gold
Shiny belt buckles and old faded Levi's
And each night begins a new day
If you don't understand him, and he don't die young
He'll probably just ride away

The Chipmunks:
Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys

Alvin:
Chipmunks

Dave:
Alvin.

The Chipmunks:
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mammas don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys

Alvin:
Chipmunks

Dave:
Alvin.

The Chipmunks:
No they'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Alvin:
Chipmunks like shady oak trees and roasted acorns (hrrr)
Not doing homework and staying up late every night

Dave:
Alvin.

Alvin:
Them that don't know him won't like him and them that do
Sometimes won't know how to take him
He ain't wrong, he's just different but his pride won't let him
Do things to make you think he's right

The Chipmunks:
Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys

Alvin:
Chipmunks

Dave:
Quit it!

The Chipmunks:
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mammas don't let your babies grow up to be

Theodore:
Chipmunks

Dave:
Theodore.

The Chipmunks:
No they'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love

Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be chipmunks

Dave:
Fellas.

The Chipmunks:
Don't let 'em pick guitars and drive them old trucks
Let 'em be doctors and lawyers and such
Mammas don't let your babies grow up to be chipmunks

Dave:
It's not chipmunks, it's cowboys!

The Chipmunks:
No they'll never stay home and they're always alone
Even with someone they love
