I was just watching Girls Night Out from and the full-height shots of Dave walking through the wilderness really drove home just how tall he was compared to the Chipettes (and of course the Chipmunks, who are the same height).
Here I would say that they are still probably 2x as big as REAL chipmunks are compared to humans, but they seemed way smaller than I remembered them being in the original series, so I went back and took a look... and yeah, they seem to be at least twice as big as they are in the new series... so 4x as big as chipmunks really are? They're like half the height of human adults... like the size of actual human children! Just how big would've they grown to as adult chipmunks? Were they chipmunk-human hybrids?
The difference in headsize doesn't seem as difference, because I think the new chipmunks have bigger heads relative to their bodies than the original ones, who were still oversized but not quite so much. I'd say the originals were maybe 50% bigger than they should be while the new ones are 2x as big?
Original Dave's head seems 2x as big as Original Brittany while New Dave's seems 3x as big as Original Brittany.
The difference in torso size seems even more extreme though... I'd want to say something like OD's torso was 2x as big as OB's while ND's is 4x as big as NB's? Anyone glean and other different numbers here?
I'm wondering if part of this is due to higher resolution: with more pixel to work with, they can shrink the Chipmunks' size relative to Dave while still having them appear detailed while appearing onscreen with him displayed at his full height?
Another might be with CGI that they can established fixed ratios so that they always appear the same size ratios consistently, which would be harder to do with hand-drawn animation and people being different relative distances away from the camera. Those differences are easier to work with the closer people are in height, I think. Being off by a little bit would be a bigger change for bigger size disparity.
