Between a Rope and a Hard Place is an episode of the ALVINNN!!! and The Chipmunks series.
Synopsis
Coach Dobkins kicks Cheesy and Theodore off the track team for being slow, but Theodore is determined to compete.[2]
Plot
Coach Dobkins gathers the class and explains that the new equipment around them is for the Physical Fitness Challenge in the coming month. The test is set to rank the school against the rest in the country and the coach wants them to perform the best possible. Theodore confesses he doesn't think he's gonna be good enough though Alvin's confident he'll be fine regardless. Theodore unfortunately doesn't do so well, along with Cheesy, so Coach Dobkins places them on a separate, "special" training program. Theodore continues the training at home before explaining to Dave that the coach won't let him back in the class until he does better. Dave disagrees and decides to call Coach Dobkins, who's not surprised by the call. Dobkins blames Dave for not helping Theodore achieve his goals and instead passing the job off to teachers like himself. Dave offers to help Theodore with his training, as long as he's serious about it. Dave tries to motivate Theodore to do better though Alvin pulls him aside to state he's got to demonstrate how it's done, instead of acting like a drill sergeant, to better motivate Theodore. Dave takes a shot at climbing the rope himself and succeeds only at struggling himself. Dave concludes it'll be best to work out along side Theodore given the shape he's in himself; they both improve with time and lots of practice. On the day of the fitness challenge, Coach Dobkins introduces Mr. Hoover, the man reporting their results. Theodore confronts the coach about rejoining the class only to be told to stay out and try again next year. Dave encourages him to race anyways, and following the start, Dobkins chases after to stop him. Theodore successfully evades the coach, finishing the race before him. Despite winning, Theodore is given two weeks of detention for breaking the rules, but Dave takes responsibility for saying Theodore could run and finds himself in detention instead.
