Images are one of my least favorite parts about the wiki. They are a HUGE (sometimes very annoying) burden to manage (which is why the wiki has a strict Image Policy today). While this is great for new uploads, the problem is primarily the wiki's historic uploads - the wild wild west of images.
What are some of the problems that still need fixing for existing images? There are a bunch.
- Marking duplicate and near-duplicate images.
- Prevent redlinks by removing links when deleting near-duplicates.
- Identifying the "Portion" of all images (meaning where the image comes from).
- Giving images proper, descriptive names.
- Replacing (not re-uploading) files on the wiki with higher quality versions.
- Adding some to articles, where appropriate/reasonable.
- Finally, licensing of these images can take place.
Most of these issues deal with 80s series and CGI films images.
I'm open for suggestions to tackle this project (if only I could wish it away). I may add additional details later though I wanted to finally get this project documented in a more public fashion.
